Florida Country Artist Christon Birge Releases “Sunscreen on You”
Florida country artist Christon Birge releases new track “Sunscreen on You” just in time to add to summer playlists.
The new single shows Birge’s versatility as he dabbles in beachy rock and roll vibes coupled with his authentic southern country twang and fiddle rounding out the song.
“For me ‘Sunscreen on You’ celebrates a lifetime of growing up near Panama City Beach,” explained Birge. “The smell of sunscreen on a girl, not having a worry in the world, fresh salty air. We all want to tap into that mindset no matter where we are, so why not create a song that instantly takes you there and makes you want to sing along.”
Birge wrote the track with songwriter pal Shaun Streeter. A native of St. Louis, Streeter moved to Panama City Beach several years ago and quickly became one of the Region’s most likeable radio morning show personalities on Kick’n Country 103.5FM. The station closed its doors in 2018 as a result of Hurricane Michael’s devastation to the area and the two used that time to write.
“I always say ‘everything happens for a reason,’ and I certainly think this is one of those prime examples.” Streeter says. “Losing my job after Hurricane Michael gave me the opportunity to write with Christon and dig a little deeper into my love of both country music and the beach. My hope is that this song will make you smile as it brings back memories of beach vacations and summer romance.”
Birge recorded the song at The Soundscape Studio in Detroit with his producer buddy Tim Smith.
“Sunscreen on You” is a departure from the softer style of Birge’s early love song “Delirious” written for his long-time girlfriend, and leans into his more playful side pulling from his most recent single “Tacos,” a song that continues to resonate with country music fans and brings out the tongue-in-cheek humor in Birge’s songwriting.
Since the release of Birge’s early singles, “Delirious” and “Tacos,” the tunes have received airplay on country radio and landed atop the Country Music Life charts.
“I feel like I was born to do this, and I’m following my heart and doing what I love most,” said Birge. “I love everything that music does to people and knowing that a song can bring strangers together is something that continues to inspire me and the music I write.”
