News Herald: Vernon man a Pepsi Southern Original semi-finalist

A local singer-songwriter is among the semi-finalists for a spot in this year’s Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam.

Christon Birge of Vernon released his debut single, “Delirious,” earlier this year on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play and Amazon.

Birge will compete at 8 p.m. Saturday at Cowboys in Dothan, Alabama, to be one of 10 finalists in the competition. The finalists then will compete Aug. 31 at Ms. Newby’s in Panama City Beach, with the winner opening for Luke Bryan and Brett Eldredge at the Jam.

Performers are judged on vocal talent, stage presence, crowd reaction, song quality, star quality and southern originality.

“It’s an honor to be named a Pepsi Southern Original Semi-Finalist and have the opportunity to compete with such talented musicians,” Birge said. “We’re just happy to be invited to the party and everything past this point is icing on the cake!”

Gulf Coast Jam will be Sept. 1-3 at Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach.
