Chipley Observer: Washington County Singer-Songwriter Christon Birge Named Semi-Finalist In Pepsi Southern Original Contest

Highway 20 Entertainment has named Washington County singer-songwriter Christon Birge a Pepsi Southern Original Semi-Finalist. Semi-Finalists will compete for a slot to perform at Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam 2017.

This Saturday, July 29, Birge will battle for a spot as one of 10 finalists at Cowboys in Dothan, AL. All 10 Pepsi Southern Original finalists (5 from 2016 and 5 from 2017) will compete for a live audience on August 31 at Ms. Newby’s in Panama City Beach and the winner will open for Luke Bryan and Brett Eldridge at Pepsi Gulf Coat Jam.

Performers will be judged on vocal talent, stage presence, crowd reaction, song quality, star quality, and southern originality. Each band will perform two original tunes and one cover. Performances begin at 8pm at Cowboys on Saturday, July 29.

“It’s an honor to be named a Pepsi Southern Original Semi-Finalist and have the opportunity to compete with such talented musicians,” said Birge. “We’re just happy to be invited to the party and everything past this point is icing on the cake!”

Birge released his debut single “Delirious” earlier this year on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play and Amazon. The tune has been earning airplay from local and national radio stations, and catching the attention of Country Music Life as a featured artist. The official “Delirious” music video shot by his childhood friend and also Vernon native Danny Paul, wife Amanda and Amanda’s sister Katie Reynolds, captures the essence of the playful country song, while giving a wink and a nod to his hometown.
